I know it is ramping up to be the busiest time of year for most of us. It has been nine months since I have sent out a newsletter. I knew it had been a while, but when I checked back, I found out that it was March when I sent out my last newsletter. March! And here it is December, and these letters are "supposed" to be monthly.
I stopped to think about why I haven't kept up on this, and I realized that it was because I was waiting for something exciting to happen, so that I could say something like "exciting news" in the subject line. I wanted to have something big to share.
I am in the process of writing a book and an online program. These are big projects that will take me much time to complete. Oh how I wish I could wave my magic wand and have them done already! But I am plucking away at them, as my time permits, while balancing my private practice, my home life, my grand parenting days and my part-time job.
Things will happen when they are meant to happen. I always tell my daughters this, and I need to listen to my own advice.
I asked a friend yesterday what she wanted for Christmas. Her response? For me to keep being who I am. For me to keep being a loving mom, nana, wife and friend. What a beautiful thing to say to me!
I think this is wisdom that we all need to hear. To keep being who we are, is our gift to others.
And so I started thinking, that we tend not to see our own inner beauty and light; that which we give to the world just by showing up and being ourselves. And by our not seeing this, we keep thinking that we need to be more and to do more, to prove that we have "arrived"; to be able to say that we have "exciting news" to share.
What my friend told me yesterday was profound. It was a reminder that I need to recognize that by being where I am right now, I am already having a big impact on the world around me. I don't need to be BIG to be big, if that makes sense.
I think that this is meant to be my message in this email. If you are still reading this, my friend, I urge you to believe that you are making a difference in this world, simply by being you.
So as you go about this season, trying to find the perfect gift for everyone on your list, remember that you are already giving a gift to your friends and family- your uniqueness that is you!
This could be the best gift you give this year.
May comfort and joy be with you at Christmas time and always.
